The Genesis of Accounting
On Day 1, there was Adam, Eve and Accounting 💑 🍎 🐍 👀
Accounting has its roots in the dawn of civilization 🤯. That’s how it’s described in this gem of an article.
⏳ It was a nice reminder that as far back as people conducted business, there was accounting.
🐔 🌾 Today, we account for changes in the value of Crypto. In ancient times, we accounted for the trade of a chicken in exchange for a sack of grain.
☝ The point being, accounting is just as relevant today as it was in ancient times.
Keep this in mind the next time you read the latest new doom and gloom article on the demise of the accounting profession.
Here’s a fun history lesson from the article:
—---------------------------
Accounting has its roots in the dawn of civilization. As far back as ancient times, transactions were recorded on clay tablets to monitor business activities.
However, it was only in the Renaissance that modern accounting began to take root.
Luca Pacioli, known today as the father of accounting, was pivotal in transforming accounting into our modern understanding.
His publication on the best practices of bookkeeping introduced to the world a new system of accounting that employed two entries for every transaction, one being a debit and the other a credit, giving birth to double-entry accounting.
The invention of the printing press helped disseminate accounting knowledge globally. This established a standard and gave birth to a profession that laid the groundwork for contemporary business.

👨💻 Today, we're more likely to use an iPad Tablet instead of a Clay Tablet, and instead of relying on the printing press, we’re more likely to press print to PDF.
💡 The world will change, the work will change and our tools will change. That’s not a mistake, that’s how it’s all supposed to work.
